The Association was founded in 1991 on the initiative of the leaders of technology museums in Serbia, which are headed by Professor Aleksandar Despić, founder and long-term chairman of the Association. The goal of the Association of Museums of Science and Technology is to consolidate all of the various specific institutions and assist in improving their work. During the sixteen years of its existence, this professional association has been joined by sixteen museums and collections, thus forming a unique network. The seat of the Association is in the Museum of Science and Technology, which conducts all organizational and administrative business. To improve the methodology of museum work for the protection of scientific and technological heritage, standards for processing technical cultural assets are developed within the Museum of Science and Technology. These standards are then used in all museums of the Association. The results of the work of the Association are periodically presented to the broader public through individual or joint exhibitions.
